Thai Herbal Steam: An Old- Fashioned Way to Slow Down

Long before wellness became something we watched on social media, people were already using simple things like warm water, herbs and steam to relax and care for the body.
In Thailand, herbs are part of everyday life. You find them in the kitchen, in the garden, in massage treatments and in traditional wellness practices.
At Lunala Thai Massage in Barcelona, we wanted to bring a little more of that tradition to Spain. So we now offer a Thai herbal Yoni Steam ritual.
And some of the herbs have travelled a very long way to get here.
From Our Garden in Phitsanulok ,Thailand

Our story starts in Phitsanulok, Thailand, where some of the herbs we use are grown in our own garden.
There is something special about knowing where your herbs come from. They aren't just ingredients from a packet. They remind us of home, family and the Thai tradition of using plants in daily life.
Our herbal blend includes lemongrass, makrut lime leaves (ใบมะกรูด), Wan Chak Mot Luk (ว่านชักมดลูก) and mugwort.
Lemongrass has a wonderfully fresh smell. Makrut lime leaves add that unmistakable Thai citrus aroma. Wan Chak Mot Luk is a herb traditionally connected with women's wellness in Thailand, while mugwort has been used in warming herbal traditions in different parts of Asia.
When these herbs meet warm water, they release an aromatic steam.
Then comes the easiest part: sit, rest and slow down.

Why Do Women Use Herbal Steam?
Traditionally, herbal warmth has been popular with women during different stages of life.
Some women enjoy the warmth around the time of their period, especially when they feel uncomfortable, tense or simply want to relax.
Herbal warmth also has a place in traditional Thai postpartum care. After giving birth, Thai families have historically used warmth and herbs in different ways as part of the mother's period of rest and recovery.
But tradition and medicine aren't always the same thing.
Yoni steaming hasn't been proven to clean the uterus, balance hormones or cure menstrual and reproductive conditions. We prefer to think of it simply as a relaxing herbal wellness ritual.
And after childbirth, patience is important. A new mother should be fully healed and get approval from her doctor or midwife before trying vaginal steaming, particularly after a C-section or while wounds are still healing.
Wait… Can Men Try It Too?
Yes!
Herbal steam doesn't have to be only about women's wellness. We can adapt the experience for men who simply want to enjoy the warmth and aroma of Thai herbs.
Think of it less as a treatment for a particular body part and more as an old-fashioned herbal relaxation ritual.
No magic promises. Just warmth, herbs, quiet and time to yourself.

We love modern wellness, but sometimes the simplest traditions are the most enjoyable.
A handful of fragrant herbs. Warm steam. A quiet room. And permission to do absolutely nothing for a little while.
Our Thai herbal steam brings a small piece of our garden in Phitsanulok all the way to Poblenou, Sant Martí, Barcelona.
